Coldharbour Marine announces launch of world beating Sea Guardian™ technology
UK based Coldharbour Marine Limited is set to launch its latest world beating piece of technology. The new, patented third generation Inert Gas Generator system (3gIGG) will be used on board ships all over the world to reduce the risk of explosions in cargo tanks and for other applications such as ballast water treatment.
Howard Towers, Coldharbour Director said “ Our new 3rd generation Sea Guardian™ IGG represents the result of several years intense Research and Development effort by the team here in Derbyshire, and that in turn was based on our combined in-house experience of more than 50 years in this important sector".
The new technology incorporates several significant advances over traditional IGG systems, in both burner and quench scrubber design, resulting in a safer, cleaner, lower maintenance, simple to operate unit. The units are more compact than earlier technologies and this will facilitate their incorporation into existing ships, as well as new builds into the future. Long term reliability and bench mark performance testing was completed in late 2007 and the units are currently in the final stages of receiving appropriate approvals and certification.
Mr Towers continued “ Our aim was to design and build the best Inert Gas Generator for the current and all foreseeable future market requirements, capable of operating at 0.5% or lower residual O2 levels whilst maintaining zero soot output. We believe that we have achieved that aim handsomely“.
Coldharbour has already received indications of interest from Europe, the United States, and Japan and expects to deliver the first customer units in 2009.
