Inert Gas GeneratorThe Coldharbour range of 'Sea Guardian' Inert Gas Generators represent the third generation of Inert Gas generation technology. The design was overseen by engineers with over 50 years combined experience in the marine inert gas sector. It incorporates a number of innovative, patented elements, aimed at achieving cleaner, more stable operation whilst reducing maintenance costs and downtime. We also wanted to make the units smaller and able to adapt to all current and forseeable legislation regarding inert gas specifications in a range of applications. A specifically developed venturi type burner using axial flow staged fuel and low NOx atomization is used. The design allows more accurately toleranced control over a scaleable range size requirement with clean combustion.
The fully integrated design elements were extensively tested over a 4 year period to type prove prior to shipboard installation. Gas outlet content is typically 0.5%O2 with zero soot across the entire range of sizes. Robust stable operation with O2 level as low as 0.1%. Range sizes go from 400Nm3/hr topping up generator through to 20,000Nm3/hr gas capacity. Sea Guardian draws heavily on the experiences of IGG users 'in the field'. Coldharbour wanted to learn the lessons that marine IGG operators knew only too well and to design a new unit with all the typical 'operating issues' engineered out. As a result the unit has no spray nozzles, no demister pads or scrubber tower. There is nothing to clog so unexpected downtime is all but eliminated. Sea Guardian's simplicity makes it inherently reliable.
These advantages over the current technologies available will benefit both new-build and retro fit installations. This new concept design eliminates the use of a through-deck scrubber tower requirement on the larger flowrates.
